Our Food Styling Must Have's

QSK’s Food Styling Essentials

There’s no doubt about it. We. Love. Food.

Photographing it. Eating it. Making it. We love all aspects of food! One of the little-known pieces of food photography includes food styling. It takes a lot of special tools to make the magic happen before we ever press our camera’s shutter button!

Paint Brush

A staple in our food styling toolbox, a few different sizes of paintbrushes are invaluable while food styling. From clearing the photo surface to brushing olive oil, it’s a seriously versatile tool.

Spray Bottle of Water

Time is always in short supply on the set of a food photography shoot. Instead of waiting for an ice-cold glass to condensate, a spray bottle speeds up the process and achieves the same results!

Lemon Juice

While time is in short supply, sometimes a dish isn’t photographing as expected. Brushing lemon juice on fruits and vegetables keeps them looking fresh while we’re busy styling a whole set!

Tweezers

To get precise placement of small items (like sprinkles), we use tweezers to make everything appear effortlessly placed.

We also use tweezers to avoid fingerprints and to make sure we don’t bump another area of the dish!

A Love of Food

Perhaps one of the most important food styling must-haves is a love of food! Without a serious love of food you might have a hard time spending hours preparing and styling a single dish for one photo!
